Professor Agasa is an inventor who often creates useful gadgets for the series' main protagonist, Conan. Professor Agasa lives next door to Shinichi (original form of Conan) and has known him since he was a child. Professor Agasa adopted Ai Haibara and is a good friend to the Detective Boys. He was the person who made the Detective Boys' badges. Professor Agasa is also good friends with Shinichi's mother and father. He is portrayed as rather forgetful and is often seen misplacing items. In this way, the relationship between him and Ai Haibara is rather comical. Although, Professor Agasa is older, Ai Haibara takes care of him and is almost like his mother (e.g. removing fatty foods out of his reach).
Professor Agasa is also rumoured and theorised by fans to be Boss of the Black Organisation. This comes from the Boss' ringtone - Seven Children and Agasa's liking of kids. The 'Seven Children' song may represent The Detective Boys (5 kids), Ran and Sonoko. These are the youngsters he is often seen around. He is also associated with the designer of the popular ginko purse.
